Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Yorkshire Sculpture Park

YSP is an extraordinary place that sets out to challenge, inspire, inform and delight. With four indoor galleries and 500 acres of 18th century parkland, it is an international centre for modern and contemporary art, experienced and enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year.

The park is one of the world’s leading open-air galleries and as a registered charity their work is crucially supported by individuals, businesses, and trusts and foundations.

The stunning, varied landscape of Yorkshire Sculpture Park is home to many species of mammal, bird, insect, fish and amphibian, not forgetting the huge variety of plants and trees, some of which are native, others which have been collected from around the world over the last few hundred years. YSP is a huge inspiration to Manchester Aid to Kosovo in the creation of the Manchester Peace Park, Kosova. The ongoing partnership projects are artist-led initiatives around the role of art in post-conflict regeneration and sustainable education. The partnership has included:

  • YSP Curators visit ‘Fragile State –  Art from Kosova’ (2006, Stockport Art Gallery)

  • ‘Fragile State’ exhibiting Kosovar artists visit YSP (2006, Yorkshire)

  • YSP Education Curator participates in dedication of Manchester Peace Park  (2009, Kosova)

  • Art in the Park Directors from Kosova residency at YSP.  YSP, Castle Fine Arts Foundry and Eden Project hosted an international residency with the two Kosovar Directors of the Peace Park.  The residencies focus upon an exchange of knowledge and techniques, looking at establishing long term support through resources and skills. (2010 Yorkshire)

  • MaK leads Peace One Day at YSP  with artists Stephen and Matt Raw, architects Jane Knight and Peter Sandover, and The Travelling Band. Talks, workshops and performances explored how creative and construction projects can contribute to a community’s recovery and peace. (2010 Yorkshire)

  • Saranda Bogujevci attends artist’s residency at YSP (2010 Yorkshire)

  • Art in the Park Co-Director helps lead bronze workshop (2011 Yorkshire)

  • YSP began working in partnership with MaK in 2007, by hosting Kosovar artists visiting the UK with the Fragile State, Manchester.

  • Peace One Day, recognised by the United Nations as the international day for the laying down of arms, was celebrated at YSP in 2009 with an introduction to the work of MaK, and its partners.
