MaK has launched  HEAL a Hospital Equipment Appeal to equip Podujevë hospital.

As the Manchester Peace Park construction comes to a close we are now launching a fresh appeal with a new aim.  We hope to better equip the hospital adjoining the Park and support surrounding health centres. This will benefit all members of society. It’s a massive challenge.

Manchester paramedic Paul Guest, trustee of MaK, writes,

“As a paramedic, for many years now I have had a heart for this area of work. The Municipality of Podujevë has a population of 130,000.  There are 75 villages and one major town which is also called Podujevë. Podujevë Family Health Centre (PFHC) is what we would call a general hospital. It is situated in the town centre and caters for local residents. It accepts referrals from the 21 outlying Health Centres and also from GPs. PFHC has a 24hr maternity ward and a 24hr A&E but there are no overnight beds for general use. The hospital is very poorly equipped. Patients are either discharged home or poorly patients are transferred to Prishtina hospital some 45 minutes away in the one ill-equipped ambulance. I hope we can improve health facilities in the hospital by offering equipment that is being replaced in the UK.'”
